چکیده

Given a graph, the sparsest cut problem asks for a subset of vertices whose edge expansion (the normalized cut given by the subset) is minimized. In this paper, we study a generalization of this problem seeking for k disjoint subsets of vertices (clusters) whose all edge expansions are small and furthermore, the number of vertices remained in the exterior of the subsets (outliers) is also small. We prove that although this problem is NP−hard for trees, it can be solved in polynomial time for all weighted trees, provided that we restrict the search space to subsets which induce connected subgraphs. The proposed algorithm is based on dynamic programming and runs in the worst case in O(kn), when n is the number of vertices and k is the number of clusters. It also runs in linear time when the number of clusters and the number of outliers is bounded by a constant.

Simultaneous robust estimation of multi-response surfaces in the presence of outliers

A robust approach should be considered when estimating regression coefficients in multi-response problems. Many models are derived from the least squares method. Because the presence of outlier data is unavoidable in most real cases and because the least squares method is sensitive to these types of points, robust regression approaches appear to be a more reliable and suitable method for addres...

Lecture 17 : Cheeger ’ s Inequality and the Sparsest Cut Problem 17 - 3

In the rest of this course we use the proof of Marcus, Spielman and Srivastava to prove an upper bound of polyloglog(n) on the integrality gap of the Held-Karp relaxation for ATSP. The materials will be based on the work of Oveis Gharan and Anari [AO14]. We start by introducing the sparsest cut problem and Cheeger’s inequalities. The ideas that we develop here will be crucially used later. In p...

Optimal Self-healing of Smart Distribution Grids Based on Spanning Trees to Improve System Reliability

In this paper, a self-healing approach for smart distribution network is presented based on Graph theory and cut sets. In the proposed Graph theory based approach, the upstream grid and all the existing microgrids are modeled as a common node after fault occurrence. Thereafter, the maneuvering lines which are in the cut sets are selected as the recovery path for alternatives networks by making ...

Constant Factor Lasserre Integrality Gaps for Graph Partitioning Problems

Partitioning the vertices of a graph into two roughly equal parts while minimizing the number of edges crossing the cut is a fundamental problem (called Balanced Separator) that arises in many settings. For this problem, and variants such as the Uniform Sparsest Cut problem where the goal is to minimize the fraction of pairs on opposite sides of the cut that are connected by an edge, there are ...

An Evolutionary Multi-objective Discretization based on Normalized Cut

Learning models and related results depend on the quality of the input data. If raw data is not properly cleaned and structured, the results are tending to be incorrect. Therefore, discretization as one of the preprocessing techniques plays an important role in learning processes. The most important challenge in the discretization process is to reduce the number of features’ values. This operat...
